Biography
AK Kamara (Abdul-Rahman Magba-Kamara) is a Conservative Opinionator and Republican Party official from Minnesota. In May 2024, delegates to the Republican Party of Minnesota’s State Central Committee elected him the state’s national committeeman to the Republican National Committee (RNC). He succeeded Alex Plechash. He took office on July 19, 2024, following the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he was also a Minnesota delegate. The RNC’s official member directory lists him as Minnesota’s National Committeeman.
AK Kamara grew up in North Dakota. His Project 21 biography says he grew up in Devils Lake. His mother is of Irish heritage and his father is from Sierra Leone. After his parents divorced, his mother raised four children with the help of subsidized housing. At 18 he moved to the Twin Cities and worked in door-to-door sales. He later earned his high school diploma online, attended community college, and transferred to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where he earned a B.A. in political science in 2010.
He says he became a Republican around the 2004 presidential election. In March 2008, MinnPost identified him as chairman of the University of Minnesota College Republicans. From May 2009 to May 2010, he served as State Chairman of the Minnesota College Republicans.
In 2012, AK Kamara worked for about a year with CFACT (the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow), a free-market policy group. In that role, he attended the United Nations Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development and an ICLEI conference, both held in Brazil.
